#19 in the Sunday Times Best 100 Small Companies to Work For
Our team have voted us into the Sunday Times Best 100 Small Companies to work for list every year since 2013. Find out why.
What Best Companies said about us:
“Each month White Cross Vets gives its staff five “Alfie” tokens, named after the practice whippet, to give out to their deserving colleagues. The rewards are worth £1 each and, in April, people cash them in for shopping vouchers.
Such rewards show there is a lot of love at this veterinary service, which gets an 88% positive score for the affection +200 employees have for their work. The rapidly expanding group of 19 practices in the Midlands and northern England received a top-30 score of 89% in the My Company category.
The central office is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and its team members believe it is run on sound moral principles (90%) by its manager, Jo Jobling. People feel the business also has a strong social conscience (89%): it has a charitable trust, which cares for school pets free of charge and helps to “keep people and pets together”.
Best Companies "An Extraordinary Company to Work For"
White Cross Vets is the only veterinary group ever to receive the maximum three stars in the Best Companies survey – and we’ve done it six times! Find out how.
Jo Jobling, General Manager at White Cross Vets, says:
“The training, development and team building opportunities that our team benefits from ensures everyone is happy and confident in their work environment and this translates directly to the positive service that our clients and their pets receive.”
“We genuinely care about our people and we also place a lot of emphasis on making a positive contribution to the local communities in which we operate. Our company ethos focuses on quality and integrity and the fact that our team is so happy is testament to the way in which the entire business operates. To be named as one of the best places to work in the UK is a major coup and to receive the highly coveted three stars is the icing on the cake.”

Veterinary Marketing Association (VMA) PR Award
White Cross Vets won the industry’s best public relations campaign at the VMA vet marketing awards. Find out how a foul-mouthed parrot helped us win!
White Cross Vets were given this award for a campaign that generated TV, radio, online, social, as well as national and regional press, when a foul-mouthed parrot was found and brought into our Guiseley practice. The campaign reached an audience of more than 3.7m people and resulted in the parrot being reunited with his owner live on ITV.
Justin Phillips, head of marketing, says: “As soon as we heard the parrot’s penchant for swearing we knew we would be able to communicate and combine White Cross Vets’ compassion and concern for the parrot and its owner with a level of humour that would appeal to the media and be remembered for all the right reasons.
“Within a few hours of the parrot being brought into the practice we were able to plan and execute a campaign that would maximise positive coverage and exposure across every type of media, both regionally and nationally.
“The fact that the parrot was reunited with its owner live on TV, after one of his friends saw it on the front page of a local newspaper, was the icing on the cake.”
